Analytics & Tracking

Analytics & Tracking for Australian Service Businesses

Understand which website actions your marketing produces. Our Analytics & Tracking service brings together Google Analytics 4 (GA4), event tracking, phone-click measurement and reporting foundations so you can assess enquiries with clearer evidence.

The aim is not to collect every possible data point. It is to measure the actions that help you make better marketing decisions.

The measurement problem

“We get enquiries” is not the same as knowing where they came from

When calls, forms and campaign actions are not measured consistently, marketing decisions can become little more than educated guesses.

01

Analytics is installed but not useful

Page views may be flowing into GA4 while commercially important actions are not defined clearly.

02

Channel contribution is unclear

Organic, paid, referral and direct traffic may be visible without a clean view of which sessions are producing meaningful actions.

03

Reports create more questions than answers

More dashboards do not automatically create clarity if nobody knows which numbers should influence decisions.

Who this is for

Is Analytics & Tracking the right next step?

This package suits service businesses that want to understand existing marketing activity, repair unclear tracking or establish a measurement foundation before launching campaigns.

A useful starting point when

  • GA4 is installed but enquiries are not clearly measured.
  • You cannot confidently compare landing pages or marketing channels.
  • You are preparing to invest in Google Ads or improve your website.
  • You have access to the website and relevant analytics accounts.

A broader scope may be needed when

  • The main requirement is a complex CRM or offline sales integration.
  • You need server-side tagging or advanced custom reporting.
  • Dedicated call tracking requires a separate paid platform.
  • You expect a complete history of activity that was never tracked.

Check the measurement foundation before buying more traffic

What useful tracking should connect

Traffic source → landing page → key action → business decision

Good measurement is a chain. If one link is missing, the business can see activity without understanding what deserves more—or less—investment.

01

Source

Understand whether sessions originate from organic search, paid media, referrals, direct visits or other channels.

02

Landing page

See which pages first receive visitors and how they support useful engagement.

03

Key action

Record the events that matter—such as enquiry forms, bookings or appropriate phone interactions.

04

Decision

Use the evidence to decide what should be fixed, retained, tested, reduced or scaled.

What the package covers

Six foundations for cleaner marketing measurement

The exact setup depends on the site, platforms and access available, but the work is centred on the actions most likely to improve decision quality.

Analytics and Tracking from Internet Marketing Service
01 · GA4

Google Analytics 4 setup or quality review

Check whether GA4 is collecting useful information and whether the basic configuration supports reporting needs.

  • Property / stream review
  • Google tag implementation check
  • Basic data-quality review
  • Referral / domain issues where relevant
  • Access and ownership check
02 · Events

Define important website actions

Focus tracking on interactions that have business meaning.

  • Form submission events
  • Important CTA clicks
  • Booking actions where relevant
  • Phone-click events where appropriate
  • Key-event designation review

Test the agreed enquiry action against successful completion, not just a submit-button click. Check for repeated or duplicate events so the report has a clear meaning.

03 · Tagging

Google Tag Manager or Google tag review

Use an appropriate implementation method so future measurement is easier to manage and test.

  • Existing GTM container review
  • Google tag review
  • Trigger / variable sanity check
  • Duplicate-tag risk review
  • Publish / test process
04 · Calls

Call-tracking foundations

Clarify what can be measured from phone interactions and whether dedicated call-tracking technology is justified.

  • Phone-click event review
  • Source-tracking options
  • Dynamic-number considerations
  • Third-party platform requirements
  • Privacy / disclosure considerations

A phone-link click does not establish call connection, duration or lead quality. Dedicated call-tracking services and their fees are separate unless included in the proposal.

05 · Attribution

Improve channel interpretation

Use acquisition and attribution views appropriately so lead activity is not attributed by instinct alone.

  • Traffic acquisition review
  • Landing page + source / medium
  • UTM discipline where relevant
  • Key-event attribution review
  • Google Ads linkage where appropriate
06 · Reporting

Turn data into useful answers

Recommend or configure a clearer view so the business can see what deserves attention without drowning in metrics.

  • Lead-action summary
  • Landing-page performance
  • Channel contribution
  • Campaign / source breakdown
  • Next-step priorities

Reporting direction includes explaining the agreed event definitions and remaining measurement limits. A tracked action is not automatically a unique or qualified lead.

Measure actions with meaning

Not every event deserves to become a key event

GA4 lets you mark important events as key events. A short list of genuinely important business actions is often more useful than hundreds of low-value events.

Keep confirmed lead actions separate from supporting interactions. GA4 records the events it receives; the implementation must be tested against what actually happened on the website.

Google’s guide to key events
01
Enquiry form submitted A successful lead-form action.
Key event candidate
02
Booking completed A confirmed consultation where reliable measurement is available.
Key event candidate
03
Phone CTA clicked An intent signal; a click does not prove a completed phone call.
Supporting event
04
Resource viewed Useful for journey analysis without necessarily being a primary conversion.

Attribution needs restraint

A lead may have more than one marketing touchpoint

GA4 attribution reporting can show how credit is distributed across measured touchpoints. Useful, yes—but not perfect certainty.

The objective is to understand contribution well enough to make better decisions.

Consent choices, blocked tags, separate devices and offline contact can leave gaps. Channel reports show measured activity and should be interpreted alongside your enquiry records.

From tracked actions to useful enquiries

Lead quality needs a business check too

A submitted form or phone click helps you understand website behaviour. It does not establish whether the person needs your service, is in your service area or becomes a customer.

Review your enquiry records for useful outcomes: relevant enquiry, booked conversation, proposal and won work. These outcomes can be reviewed alongside website reports; an automated CRM connection is a separate scope unless agreed.

Define a useful enquiry Agree what makes an enquiry relevant to your services and capacity.
Compare consistent periods Consider visitor volume, channel mix and changes in campaigns. Small enquiry counts can make short-term comparisons inconclusive.
Separate website friction from follow-up A clear enquiry path and a timely business response both deserve review.
Diagnose the next constraint Use the evidence to decide whether targeting, page usability, the offer or follow-up needs attention.

Privacy-aware measurement

Better tracking does not mean collecting everything

Australian privacy guidance encourages transparency, due diligence and data minimisation when organisations use analytics and third-party tracking technologies.

Measurement should therefore be configured around legitimate business needs and the site’s privacy disclosures should remain consistent with the technologies actually in use.

Read the IMS Privacy Policy

Keep names, email addresses, personal phone numbers and enquiry-message contents out of standard analytics events and URLs.

Google’s guidance on avoiding personal information in Analytics
Collect what is reasonably useful Avoid collecting personal information simply because a platform makes it technically possible.
Keep privacy information current Policies and notices should reflect the analytics and tracking technologies actually deployed.
Review third-party tracking Pixels and call-tracking tools should be reviewed periodically for purpose and configuration.
Avoid prohibited data Check implementations so form contents or sensitive data are not inadvertently passed to analytics or advertising platforms.

Investment and expectations

A one-off measurement foundation before bigger marketing decisions

The current IMS package is designed as a focused setup or review rather than an open-ended reporting retainer.

For the focused Analytics & Tracking setup or review described on this page.
  • GA4 setup / review
  • Tag and event review
  • Key-event direction
  • Call-tracking foundations
  • Channel / attribution review
  • Reporting direction

Third-party call-tracking platforms, paid dashboard tools, CRM integrations, server-side tagging or complex custom implementations are separate unless expressly included in writing.

What improvement should look like

The best result is not “more data”. It is a cleaner connection between funded marketing and the lead actions the business cares about.

Cleaner lead paths Forms, calls and bookings are easier to identify.
Better channel clarity Organic, paid, referral and direct traffic can be compared more intelligently.
Better page insight Landing pages can be viewed alongside engagement and key events.
Better decisions Less budget is allocated purely on assumption.

How the package works

Review. Define. Implement. Clarify.

A simple measurement process built around the business’s real lead priorities.

01

Review

Assess current GA4, tags, events, lead actions, account access and obvious data-quality gaps.

02

Define

Agree which actions matter enough to measure and which reports should answer the key questions.

03

Implement

Configure or improve the agreed in-scope tracking, tags, events and reporting foundations.

04

Clarify

Confirm what can now be measured reliably, what still has limitations and what deserves attention next.

Frequently asked questions

Tracking that helps decisions—not dashboard decoration

The package is designed to make current marketing easier to understand before adding more complexity.

Ask About My Tracking Setup
Do I need this if Google Analytics is already installed?
Possibly. Installation alone does not mean the right lead actions, key events, source information or reporting views are configured well.
What is a GA4 key event?
A key event is an event you mark as especially important to the business, such as a successful enquiry form or completed booking.
Can you track phone calls?
Phone-link clicks can often be measured on the website. Tracking completed calls and their source more reliably may require dedicated call-tracking technology, which should be scoped separately where required.
Does this include Google Tag Manager?
It can include GTM review or appropriate tag setup within the agreed scope. Google Tag Manager can simplify management of tags, triggers and variables once correctly installed.
Can GA4 tell me exactly which channel caused every enquiry?
No analytics platform can perfectly reconstruct every human decision or unobservable touchpoint. Attribution is useful evidence, not absolute certainty.
Can GA4 data be linked with Google Ads?
Yes, where account access and settings permit. Google Ads conversions can be created from Analytics key events. The agreed lead actions and conversion settings should be reviewed before they are used to guide campaign optimisation.
What about privacy?
Tracking should be configured with data minimisation, transparency and applicable privacy obligations in mind. Legal advice may be appropriate for higher-risk or regulated implementations.
How long does the setup take?
Core setup or review work can often be completed within about 14 days. Actual timing depends on access, site complexity, approvals and any third-party requirements.
Does an Analytics key event prove I received a qualified lead?
No. It records the configured action. A successful form submission still needs a business check for relevance, spam and duplicates. A phone click shows intent to call. Lead qualification and sales outcomes need enquiry records or a separately scoped integration.
Can you recover enquiries that were never tracked?
A new setup cannot recreate website events that were never collected. Existing enquiry records and historical analytics may provide partial context. The setup establishes clearer measurement going forward.
